Ceragon Networks Wins Gloabl Supply Contract with Hutchison 3G

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Japanese Backhaul Contract

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Japan's NTT DoCoMo to build the mobile backhaul network for its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. Alcatel-Lucent's packet optical solution will provide DoCoMo with ethernet-based aggregation and transport from the base stations to the core network.  more

Tata Teleservices Expands Wireless Backhaul Network

Ceragon Networks has received new backhaul hardware orders from India's Tata Teleservices. Tata has already deployed Ceragon's backhaul equipment in three circles following a long-term supply agreement the companies signed in mid-2008. This agreement is now extended, bringing the number of circles to be served by Ceragon equipment to a total of 10, including the Delhi metro area.  more

Over Half of Cellular Backhaul Capacity will be Ethernet by the End of 2011

While microwave will remain the most common last mile link medium, ethernet is playing an increasing role in supporting backhaul needs for cellular and WiMAX networks. Over half of cellular backhaul capacity will use ethernet by the end of 2011, reports In-Stat. The transition to ethernet will vary by region, depending on where mobile operators are in their transition to 3G and LTE networks.  more

Mobile backhaul equipment market growing fast, with no letup in sight

Mobile backhaul equipment investments jumped a healthy 19% in 2008 to $4.6 billion worldwide, and revenue is set to explode over the next 5 years and beyond, reports Infonetics Research. The report also said that the most quickly changing technologies between 2008 and 2013 are ethernet microwave and ethernet copper and fiber. In all the major world regions, operators will gradually shift to ethernet backhaul, although it will be a slower shift in Asia Pacific and Central/Latin America, as a higher proportion of overall mobile traffic remains voice for a longer period.  more

Microwave equipment market hits $4.9 billion in 2008, led by Ericsson and NEC

Market research firm Infonetics Research is reporting that worldwide microwave equipment sales hit $4.9 billion in 2008, up 23% from the previous year. Despite a tough macroeconomic climate, mobile operators continue to invest in mobile backhaul to accommodate rapidly rising mobile broadband traffic -- the primary driver behind strong microwave equipment market growth.  more
