Spending on Carrier Ethernet Will Hit $5 Billion in 2012, But Growth Is Slowing

­US enterprises and consumers are expected to spend more than $47 billion over the next five years on ethernet services provided by carriers, according to a new market research study from Insight Research. With metro-area and wide-area ethernet services readily available from virtually all major data service providers, industry revenue is expected to grow from nearly $5.0 billion in 2012 to reach just over $11 billion by 2017.  more

­Shipments of microwave equipment grew in 2010 over the previous year, but due to price erosion, particularly in the hybrid TDM/ethernet equipment segment, overall revenue was relatively flat, at $5.6 billion (down 1%) worldwide, reports Infonetics Research.
