Mobile broadband subscriptions to hit one billion mark in 2011
During the course of 2010, a significant milestone in terms of mobile broadband subscriptions was reached as their number surpassed the half-a-billion mark globally. ericsson estimates that this number will double before 2011 ends. The greatest number of subscriptions, around 400 million, is expected to be concentrated in the Asia Pacific region, followed by North America and Western Europe with more than 200 million subscriptions each. more

Global mobile data traffic nearly triples in 1 year

Ericsson Wins 4-Year 3G Upgrade Contract in Turkey
Turkish operator Avea has signed a four year contract with ericsson for a WCDMA/HSPA upgrade. Under the agreement, ericsson will be one of the main suppliers and will integrate and deploy WCDMA/HSPA radio access and packet core networks, as well as a complete mobile-backhaul solution based on microwave transmission and optical transport. more

Telefonica Conducts 1st Tests of LTE Network in Spain
Spain's Telefónica has conducted its first tests on a live LTE network, installed at its Demonstrations Centre in Madrid. These initial real demonstrations or tests consisted of a VoIP call, and a videocall using an LTE mini-network installed by ericsson; a video conference, and data and images downloads at speeds in excess of 140 Mbps, around 10 times those possible with current 3G networks using HSPA technology. more

Austria Gets Europe's First HSPA+ Mobile Data Network
Telekom Austria's mobile subsidiary, mobilkom austria, has become the first operator in Europe to launch HSPA+ services - offering a potential mobile data download speed of 21 Mbps. In a first step, HSPA+ will be rolled-out in Vienna's 10th district, with further hotspots following throughout the country by the second quarter of 2009. more
