Ericsson and Samsung cooperate for world's first LTE interoperability

E­ricsson has announced the successful completion of interoperability tests between its live LTE network in Stockholm, Sweden and Samsung supplied LTE modems. Yesterday, Samsung won a contract to supply those LTE modems to TeliaSonera.  more

Telefonica Announces Wide-Spread Trials of LTE Networks

­Telefonica says that it has reached an agreement with six LTE technology providers to launch LTE test projects in six different countries. The suppliers Telefonica has chosen so far: Alcatel-Lucent, ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia Siemens Networks and ZTE, will start rolling out the equipment necessary for testing the technology during the coming months.  more

Telecom Italia Launches 28Mbps Mobile Download Service

Telecom Italia has launched what it says is the first city-wide mobile broadband service offering peak speeds of 28 Mbps/s in download and 5.8 Mbps/s in upload. The service has launched in Milan, Italy and will be available in Rome from October. The upgrade was provided by ericsson.  more

Ericsson Planning $1.5 Billion Investment in South Korea

ericsson and South Korea have initiated a collaboration aiming to use mobile broadband and other communication technologies, such as machine to machine (m2m), to create a green eco-system. Korea's president, Lee Myung-bak and ericsson's newly appointed CEO, Hans Vestberg met in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss how the smart use of telecommunications and IT can help Korea and the rest of the world to reduce CO2 emissions, as well as the role of the government and ericsson in achieving this.  more

Ericsson Warns Against Over-Hyping LTE Download Speeds

ericsson has warned that expectations of mobile download speeds are being over hyped as networks prepare to roll out LTE based networks. The issue has cropped up before. When Australia's Telstra launched its 21Mbps HSPA+ upgrade, it also advised customers that typical download speeds would average 8Mbps.  more

ericsson has confirmed that it has signed license agreements for LTE essential patents. The company also confirmed that licensing arrangements will be made according to its proportional share of the standard IPR that relates to the relevant product category.  more
