Market research firm Infonetics Research is reporting that telecom carriers spent US$62 billion on outsourced services in 2008, and have plans to increase that spending. The report noted that the top revenue-generating tasks outsourced by service providers in 2008 include network maintenance, application service delivery, network build, and network planning and design. more

Fitch has affirmed the debt ratings for ericsson as stable and the Issuer Default rating (IDR) and senior unsecured rating of 'BBB+.' Fitch said that the affirmation of ericsson's ratings reflect the company's leading industry position in mobile network equipment, a growing Professional Services business, which should provide some earnings protection in light of the coming industry downturn, healthy liquidity and strong balance sheet. more

Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Increased 12% in Q2 of 2008
Worldwide sales of mobile phones reached close to 305 million units in the second quarter of 2008, a 11.8 percent increase over the second quarter of 2007, according to Gartner. Sales of mobile phones in the mature markets of Western Europe and North America slightly recovered after a difficult start. Western Europe reached close to 42 million units while North America surpassed 44 million units in the second quarter of 2008. more

Ericsson Wins Mexican Microwave Contract
ericsson says that it has been selected by Mexico's Telcel to provide microwave-transmission links for high-speed mobile broadband. The agreement is ericsson's largest microwave deal in Latin America so far, and the company will provide Telcel with microwave-transmission links for 2G and 3G/HSPA based on the ericsson MINI-LINK TN solution. This is a turnkey project in which ericsson will provide full customer, equipment and field support. more

ericsson has won a contract to provide business consulting and systems integration services for Telefłnica's fixed and mobile operations across Latin America.
