Nokia Siemens Networks Wins 60% of Russian 3G Tender

­Russia's MegaFon has announced the outcome of a 3G network tender, with Nokia Siemens Networks supplying at least 60% of 3G Node -B Base Stations. MegaFon says that it shall decide upon the territory of the equipment supply within Russia at the same time there shall be no exclusivity rights provided to vendors.  more

Ericsson Approved as Supplier to AT&T Landline Division

Wireline Access Suppliers will compete with each other for AT&T capital spending on all Wireline Access applications and products, including collaborating with third-party suppliers to provide technologically leading solutions to AT&T.  more

Japanese Operator Launches 21Mbps HSPA+ Network Upgrade

­Japan's first HSPA Evolution (also known as HSPA+) network has been launched in the country's largest metropolitan cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama and Nagoya, enabling peak data rates of 21Mbps. The deployment is part of a major expansion and upgrade agreement between ericsson and mobile network operator, Emobile.  more

New President and CEO for ST-Ericsson

­ST-ericsson, a joint venture of STMicroelectronics and ericsson has announced the appointment of Gilles Delfassy as President and CEO of the company. Alain Dutheil, who led the company during the merger, will work with Delfassy over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition. Delfassy will assume his position as President and CEO effective November 2, 2009. After then, Dutheil will continue to support ST-ericsson by joining its Board and will return to his previous role as STMicroelectronics' Chief Operating Officer.  more

WCDMA equipment up 21% in 2Q, driven by 3G rollouts and device upgrades

IMS equipment market thriving; revenue up 108% in 2Q09, led by Ericsson, Huawei

Worldwide sales of IMS equipment jumped 108% between 1Q09 and 2Q09, to $164 million, reports Infonetics Research. ­While ericsson has long led the IMS market in overall number of network deployments, Huawei, Nokia Siemens, and Alcatel-Lucent are providing serious competition.  more

Improving Mobile Phone Coverage Across Lake Victoria

Mobile phone coverage across Africa's Lake Victoria is to be expanded in a joint venture between Zain, and ericsson, in an initiative coordinated by the GSM Association. The coverage will comprise the area of the lake where 80 percent of fishing activities take place, allowing communication and SMS exchange to and from phones. This enhancement will fuel economic and social development of the lakeside communities and potentially reduce the number of fishing-related deaths each year.  more
