Bolivian Operator Orders First WiMAX Deployment

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by Bolivia's entel to deploy the first commercial WiMAX Rev-e (802.16e-2005 standard) network in the country. The new network will accommodate stationary and nomadic applications, and will complement the carrierĂ's existing fixed-based broadband services. entel plans to launch commercial service of the network by the end of this quarter.  more

Dotcom receives virtual mobile operator license

Dotcom is now authorized to rent capacity from mobile operators and resell the minutes under its own brand name. The license was issued despite objections from the country's three mobile companies: entel PCS, Claro Chile, of Mexico's America Movil, and Movistar Chile, of Spain's Telefonica. more

Entel expects 5.5mn subscribers by year-end

Chilean telecoms operator entel expects its mobile unit entel PCS to add 500,000 subscribers in 2007 to total 5.5mn, local daily El Mercurio quoted entel's general manager Richard Büchi as saying. more
