Finland Awards Radio Spectrum for LTE Networks

Finland's TeliaSonera, elisa and DNA have been allocated additional frequencies enabling them to start building fourth generation (LTE) mobile networks. The frequencies are located in the 1,800 MHz band, which will make Finland the first country in Europe to allow the use of 4G LTE technology at such low frequencies.  more

Elisa Contines to Add Customers - Despite Market Saturation

elisa continued its steady if unspectacular progress in Q3 08, adding 57.4k customers to bring its combined customer base to 2.83m. Annual growth stood at 7.9%, up from 6.9% in the previous twelve months. Given that elisaÃ's markets of operation (Finland and Estonia) both have penetration rates in excess of 125%, such a growth rate is commendable, as is the consistency of its growth: in the past eight quarters, figures for net additions have not fallen outside the 30k - 80k range.  more

Elisa Closes Gap on Sonera in Home Market

Finnish based operator elisa added almost 46k customers at its two mobile businesses in Q1 2007 to reach a total of 2.535m customers at the end of March. The two operating companies, in Finland and Estonia, posted similar proportionate customer growth rates in the first quarter, of 1.9% and 1.7% respectively, although the Finnish business is 7.5 times the size of its smaller sibling and so contributed the majority of the growth in absolute terms. more

Valimo Wireless and BBS (Banking and Business Solutions) have demonstrated that mobile signatures can be completed across borders, between mobile operators and mobile signature service providers. The first international mobile signature roaming test was successfully accomplished earlier this month, between a Valimo Validator MSSP (Mobile Signature Service Platform) installed in Finland and an acquiring entity, installed at BBS in Norway. more

TeliaSonera Appeals Against Spectrum Removal

TeliaSonera Finland says that it is appealing against the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority's (FICORA) GSM 900 radio license decision and has requested that the enforcement of the decision should be suspended for the duration of the appeal process. The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) announced yesterday that it is going to transfer some GSM spectrum from Sonera Mobile to rival operator, Finnet Networks from the end of next year. Sonera Mobile is due to hold onto that spectrum until the end of 2010 according to its current license. more
