Elisa Q1 2009 - Total Mobile Base Surpasses 3 Million
The Q1 09 numbers from elisa have been reported using a new analysis, which focuses on the type of customer, rather than the physical network. Thus we get revenues and EBITDA split between consumer and corporate rather than fixed and mobile. Frankly, this doesn't help much. We can see that overall revenues are down from €367m to €351m, but that this hasn't hurt profitability. EBITDA is up from €108m to €115m, operating profits from €57.2m to €61.7m and after tax, from €40.2 to €41.2m. more

Elisa - Steady Customer Growth Maintained
elisa's home operation in Finland finished 2008 with 2.54m customers, up 8.9% year on year. Although this was up 2.5pp compared to the 2007 rate, and was in fact the highest rate in six quarters, elisa's growth may well lag behind that of the other two Finnish operators judging from the comparative rates in previous quarters. Nonetheless, the increase in growth is impressive given that the mobile penetration rate in Finland looks certain to have surpassed 130% at the end of 2008. Moreover, fourth-quarter net additions reached a seven-year high of 54.2k, more than double the year-earlier figure of 24.8k. more

Elisa Contines to Add Customers - Despite Market Saturation
elisa continued its steady if unspectacular progress in Q3 08, adding 57.4k customers to bring its combined customer base to 2.83m. Annual growth stood at 7.9%, up from 6.9% in the previous twelve months. Given that elisaÃ's markets of operation (Finland and Estonia) both have penetration rates in excess of 125%, such a growth rate is commendable, as is the consistency of its growth: in the past eight quarters, figures for net additions have not fallen outside the 30k - 80k range. more

Qualcomm Warns About Scarce 3G Spectrum in Asia Region
In an interview, Qualcomm's president for Southeast Asia and the Pacific region, John Stefanac warned that mobile operators face a regulatory regime which is not allocating sufficient radio spectrum for 3G services. Citing a recent example in Indonesia, he told the South China Morning Post that the networks were only granted 5-10Mhz of spectrum each, which is not sufficient to deploy viable 3G services. more
