Alcatel-Lucent Cuts Power Consumption by Base Stations by a Quarter

Alcatel-Lucent announced an enhancement to its GSM/edge mobile networking portfolio which it says can reduce power consumption by up to 27 percent. The power reductions were demonstrated during January field trial this year with China Mobile in the country's Jiangsu province. On average, a 24 percent power saving has been achieved.  more

Global Mobile Market to Exceed US$900 Billion in 2008

A report from IDATE says that the world telecom services market is estimated at US$1,365 billion in 2008 - a 4.2% increase over the year before - and is expected to be worth over US$1,416 billion in 2009. With a total turnover estimated at US$742.2 billion in 2008, mobile services account for 54% of the telecom services market and single handedly deliver all of the sector's growth.
