O2 to Pre-Load eBay App onto UK Smartphones

­Online auction and retail serice, ebay has signed a deal to pre-load its mobile apps into phones sold by O2 in the UK. This is the first mobile pre-load deal agreed by ebay anywhere in the world, and the first time Telefonica has selected an app to make available to its O2 smart and feature phone customers across the board. ebay's mobile app is one of the most popular shopping destinations for O2's customers who are already responsible for a significant proportion of ebay's UK mobile traffic.  more

Skype Founders Trying to Buy Back the Company

The two founders of the VoIP service provider, Skype are rumoured to be trying to buy the company back from ebay - whom they sold it to in 2005 for US$2.6 billion. The online auction firm brought Skype aiming to offer cheap voice calls linking buyers and sellers, but the idea did not catch on with their customers.  more

9 Million US Mobile Users Have Used Their Mobile Phone to Pay for Goods or Services

Commerce over mobile devices such as cell phones is accelerating in the US, according to data released by The Nielsen Company. Already, 9 million US mobile subscribers say they have used their mobile phone to pay for goods or services, and half of all data users (49%) say they expect to participate in mobile commerce in the future.  more

O2 Fires Staff for Selling Apple iPhones on eBay

UK operator, O2 has reportedly sacked at least six staff who used their staff discount to buy Apple iPhones - then later sold them on the ebay auction website for a significant profit. It's understood that the employees, all based in retail stores in London brought noticeable quantities of the handsets with a 20% staff discount - which triggered the investigation by O2 head office. A further twenty employees are being investigated.  more
