Verizon Wireless Loses Early Termination Fee Appeal

Verizon Wireless has lost an appeal against a US$21 million refund demand for Californian customers who sued over early termination fees. Each subscriber in the class-action lawsuit is now entitled to a US$87.50 refund from the mobile network operator which had imposed a US$175 fee for breaking a contract early.  more

One in Six American Phone Subscribers Have Experienced "Bill Shock"

The USA's telecoms regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) says that 30 million Americans -- or one in six mobile users -- have experienced "bill shock," a sudden increase in their monthly bill that is not caused by a change in service plan. A survey conducted by the regulator also shows that nearly half of cell phone users who have plans with early termination fees (ETFs) -- and almost two-thirds of home broadband users with ETFs -- don't know the amount of the fees they're accountable for.  more
