Mobile TV License Granted in the United Arab Emirates

­The UAE's telecoms regulator, the TRA has awarded a Mobile TV license to a consortium that includes both mobile networks, for a payment of AED 17 million (US$4.6 million). The license is for ten years, with a five-year exclusivity period.  more

Dubai Light-Railway Opens with Wi-Fi Coverage

The new dubai metro railway has been fitted out with Wi-Fi coverage by local telecoms operator, Du, in partnership with UK-based Nomad Digital. ZTE has announced that it is rolling out an all-IP mobile phone and data network for Madamobil, a new mobile operator in Madagascar. The network rollout is currently in its final stages with ZTE supplying the core equipment and the base stations for the first phase of the network construction. Madamobil, which will offer services under the "Life" brand, is the only mobile broadband network operation in Madagascar operating on CDMA 2000 1X/EVDO.  more

Batelco Buys 49% Stake in Indian Regional Mobile Network

Bahrain based telco, Batelco has announced that it is buying a 49% stake in Indian greenfield mobile operator, S Tel for US$225 million. Batelco has partnered with Millennium Private Equity (MPE), a dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) regulated entity to form Batelco Millennium India Company Limited (BMICL) to purchase the shares in S Tel.  more
