Thailand's DTAC - Growth Weakens and ARPUs Continue to Slide

In 2008, dtac saw its annual growth rate drop below 20% for the first time in three years, with a yearly gain of 18.5%. However, given that Thailand's penetration rate is now beyond 90%, this still represents a reasonably strong result. In real terms, dtac's active customer base grew by 2.91m to 18.68m, down by almost 1m on the 2007 gain of 3.90m.  more

Thailand's DTAC - Profits up despite ARPU decline

dtac, ThailandÃ's second largest operator by customer numbers, has reported its Q3 08 Results. Its active customer base grew by 22.4% year on year to 18.21m, with net additions of 0.78m in the quarter. Although this quarterly gain was almost double that recorded in the same quarter of 2007, when net additions were at an all-time low of 0.40m, on an annual basis net additions were down from 3.64m to 3.34m. Proportionate annual growth also fell by 10.0pp.  more

Thailand's TrueMove Grows Falters on Unfavourable Tariffs

Third-placed Thai mobile operator TrueMove turned in its weakest net additions performance for more than two years in Q1 2008 with just 368k new customers joining its service, compared with an average of 1.1m per quarter in 2007. As a result, proportionate growth fell from 7.4% in Q1 07 and 7.5% in Q4 07 to 3.0% in Q1 08, taking the customer base to 12.45m.  more

Thailand AIS - Credit-Control Crunch Catapults Contract Churn

Full-year results from Thai market leader AIS show the company to have ended 2007 with a customer base of 24.1m, up from 19.5m a year earlier. In proportionate terms, the year's growth amounted to 23.5% of the 2006 total, the best performance by the company since 2003. The growth rate still lagged behind rival dtac, which registered a 32.9% increase, but in absolute terms the growth amounted to a greater number of net additions - 4.58m against dtac's 3.90m - extending AIS' lead over dtac from 7.65m to 8.33m customers over the course of the 12 months to 31st December 2007.  more

Record-breaking quarter for Truecorp but AIS still leads

AIS and Truecorp, Thailand's 1st and 3rd largest operators respectively, have reported their third quarter results for 2007. AIS maintained a customer base over twice the size of that of Truecorp, but only just: with 23.3m customers, AIS was 107% larger than Truecorp, which had 11.2m customers. A year previously, AIS was 162% larger, and even at the end of Q2 the ratio was 1.5 to 1.  more
