DoCoMo Full-Year Profits Down 3.9%
Japan's NTT docomo has reported a dip of 3.9% in its full fiscal year profits to reach ¥471.9 billion (US$4.93 billion), compared to ¥491.2 billion in the previous year. The average expected by analysts had been a rise in profits to around ¥499.5 billion, according to a Dow Jones Newswires report. Operating income saw a slight rise to ¥831 billion due to a decrease in cost of equipments resulting from decreased number of handsets sold. more

India's Reliance Seeks 100 Million Subscribers by Year-End
India's Reliance Communications has set itself a target of breaking the 100 million subscriber mark before the end of this year - requiring an additional 25 million new customers to sign up to its network. Tata Teleservices Outlines $2 Billion CAPEX During 2009-10

KT Freetel Sells Stake in Malaysian Subsidiary
South Korea's KT Freetel is to sell its 16.5% stake in Malaysian mobile network operator, U Mobile for at least RM 360 million (US$100 million) to avoid losses on its investment. Bloomberg news reported that he company said in a regulatory filing that the sale of 62.6 million shares will go to U Mobile's major shareholder, U Television Sdn Bhd. more

DoCoMo Demos Mobile Downloads at 120Mbps using LTE Test Network
Fujitsu has announced that, in collaboration with NTT docomo, they have conducted successful field testing for Long-term Evolution (LTE), using 4x4 MIMO technology. The testing took place in the Special Ubiquitous Zone, an area of the northern Japanese city of Sapporo in Hokkaido, designated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in 2008 as a wireless communications testing area, and used prototypes of the wireless LTE base stations developed jointly by NTT docomo, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories which, with the use of MIMO technology, resulted in high-speed wireless transmissions in the range of 120 Mbps (using 10 MHz bandwidth) in Sapporo's urban environment. more

DoCoMo Suspends Sales of BlackBerry Bold
Japan's NTT docomo has suspended sales of Research In Motion's BlackBerry Bold due to reports that the phone can overheat when the battery is being recharged. The operator said that it has sold around 4,000 of the handsets since it was launched just over a week ago, and had 30 complaints that the keyboard area heats up during charging. more

Japan's DoCoMo to Issue South Korean Numbers for Roaming Customers
Japanese operator, docomo is launching a service which offers a local South Korean phone number to its customers roaming into that country - which it says will lower phone call costs by around 60%. Customers will also retain the docomo numbers that they use in Japan. more

DoCoMo 9-Month Profit Rises 16% to $4.8 billion
Japan's docomo has reported that its net profit for the April-December period grew 16 percent to reach YEN 437.7 billion (US$4.8 billion) compared to a year earlier. Operating income rose 19 percent to YEN 746.8 billion (US$8.3 billion), while revenue fell 4 percent to YEN 3.38 trillion (US$37.7 billion). more
