First Wireless Video Transmission with Terahertz Waves

The global data highways are becoming increasingly fuller - it's no wonder that wireless means of transmission are becoming ever more attractive. However the current systems, such as WLAN or Bluetooth have their limits: They transmit the data with clock rates of some gigahertz, maximum (a billion vibrations per second). If one wants to increase the transmitted data quantity, then the clock rates must become still faster. Thus the range of the terahertz waves (1000 billion vibrations per second) has moved into focus - at least for short ranges, as for example, within rooms.  more

No Adverse Health Effects from 3G Base Stations

Japan's mobile phone operators have jointly confirmed that radio frequency energy from WCDMA mobile phone base stations does not cause damage to human cells in vitro studies. Since November 2002, the companies have been collaborating to examine the effects of radio waves. As part of the collaboration, large-scale experiments have been conducted on the cellular and genetic level using radio waves up to 10 times stronger than the limit set forth in radio frequency radiation protection guidelines for base stations. more

Base station radio emissions are safe - new report

Japan's mobile phone operators have reported interim findings that radio frequency energy from mobile phone base stations does not affect human cells. Using four human cell lines, two containing established infant and fetal fibroblast cells and two containing cerebral tumor tissues, and examining about 20,000 genes in the human genome (approximately 40,000 genes have been identified), researchers found no effect on cell proliferation, gene expression profile or DNA single-strand breaks. more
