Orascom, Telecom Egypt to Shut Down Algerian Landline Operator

Orascom Telecom and Telecom Egypt are to liquidate their landline joint venture in Algeria, citing competitive problems with the incumbent operator, Algƒ©rie Tƒ©lƒ©com. Algƒ©rie Telecom remained the monopoly fixed operator till 2005. The monopoly status ended in May 2005, when the ARPT awarded the Consortium Algƒ©rien des Telecommunication (CAT) a 15-year renewable license to provide fixed, international and rural services.  more

Orascom Telecom Orders HLR for Algerian Network

Comptel Wins Algerian OSS Contract

Algerian mobile operator, Orascom Telecom Algƒ©rie (djezzy) has ordered a Provisioning and Activation Solution from OSS vendor, Comptel. Improving Voice Call Quality in Algeria

Ditech Networks says that Orascom Telecom is completing full deployment of it's products in the djezzy GSM mobile services network in Algeria after an audit showed a measurable increase in voice quality. The audit was implemented utilizing Ditech's Experience Intelligence (EXi) solution, which measures the impact of voice quality impairments from the caller's environment on the mobile call experience. After monitoring and analyzing call data over a four-week period, the audit showed that VQA increased djezzy's MOS value (Mean Opinion Score) up to a full half-point.  more

Algerian Operator Improves Backhaul Network

Orascom has deployed a backhaul package from Redline Communications for its djezzy GSM mobile services in Algeria. Orascom Technology Solutions (OTS) chose Redline's RedCONNEX products to enable Orascom Telecom to upgrade its mobile network, which currently provides voice services to more than eleven million customers, to manage increased traffic on its network and support more advanced voice and data communications. more

New Algerian network to start taking orders next week

The new market entrant into Algeria's cellular market, djezzy has said that it plans to start offering commercial services in the capital city, Algiers from February 15th 2002. The service will then be extended to 11 other cities by the end of the year. djezzy general manager Lionel Coussi said that the company will start taking pre-orders from next week and is aiming to connect 500,000 subscribers by the end of the year. more
