Strong Netbook Shipments Buoy Notebook PC Market in Q3'08

Despite what is looking to be a rather dismal fourth quarter for the PC industry as a whole, one very bright spot has emerged. The mini-note PC, also called netbook, category grew at more than 160% Q/Q in Q3'08 as most of the top tier PC brands have now entered the market. Slowing Mobile Phone Market Weakening Demand for Displays

Coming into the holiday shopping season, worldwide shipments of displays for mobile phones are slowing significantly. According to the latest forecast from displaysearch, Q4Ã'08 mobile phone display unit shipments will only be 2.5% higher Y/Y. By comparison, Q4Ã'07 unit growth was up 28% Y/Y, and Y/Y growth has remained in double digits every quarter during since Q3Ã'07.  more

Motorola Sales Slump Pushes Sharp Down the Mobile Screen Shipments Rankings

The mobile phone display segment was shaken by a 36% Q/Q and 41% Y/Y drop in Motorola's mobile phone main display purchases down from 50M last quarter to 32M shipments. The plunge, in turn, caused a 21% drop in Sharp's display shipments - lowering Sharp from #1 to the #3 position in mobile phone display shipments. Other Q2'07 events included Samsung SDI regaining the #1 position in mobile phone display shipments in Q2'07 with 37 million units shipped, and Nokia increasing its lead in mobile phone handset purchases, of 100 million units - up 11% Q/Q and 18% Y/Y.  more

Mobile Phone Display Shipments Reached a New High

displaysearch has released its quarterly mobile phone display shipmentsupdate, which revealed Q4'06 shipments of 297.6 million main displays and 67.9million sub-displays for a combined growth of 3% Q/Q and 7% Y/Y. Worldwidesubscriber penetration achieved over 36% in 2006, reaching over 2.3 billionsubscribers, up 23% Y/Y. more

Phone Main Display Shipments Up Nearly a Third Year-on-Year

displaysearch has released its Quarterly Mobile Phone Shipment and Forecast report, which revealed shipments of 275.3 million main displays and 60.7 million sub-displays for mobile phone handset screens. Active Matrix displays are now more than 53.7% of the total shipments, up from 41.7% a year ago. This trend is expected to continue, and by Q4'06, the Active Matrix share is forecast to be up to 60.4%. Color displays now represent 84.5% of the total.
