Alcatel-Lucent Demos LTE Running at 800Mhz in Europe
Alcatel-Lucent says that it has successfully completed the worldwide first LTE data call on the 800 MHz "European Digital Dividend" (EDD) spectrum band in a live network. The call was completed last month at Alcatel-Lucent's LTE end-to-end solutions center in Stuttgart, Germany, involved transmitting high-definition video streaming over the air using Alcatel-Lucent's commercial infrastructure platforms and prototype mobile devices. more

GSMA Urges Latin American Regulators to Relax radio Spectrum Limits
Tight spectrum caps in some Latin American countries are artificially curbing uptake and usage of broadband in the region, according to a study by consultancy Arthur D Little (ADL) for the GSMA, the global trade group for the mobile industry. The study found that rigid restrictions on the amount of spectrum available to mobile operators are undermining their ability to provide mobile broadband services that would enable millions of people to access the Internet, email and other online services via computers and handsets at high speeds in areas lacking DSL or cable broadband connections. more

Digital dividend - France is paving the way for harmonised decisions across Europe
The French Government this week announced its decision to share 'digital-dividendÃ' spectrum between both electronic communications and audiovisual services, following the recommendation of the Digital Dividend Parliamentary Commission published in July 2008. Analysts from Analysys Mason believes that this decision represents an important contribution to achieving a critical mass of users of mobile broadband services. If similar actions are undertaken by other Member States, it will also be a key step in reaching fully harmonised decisions across the EU. more
