ZTE Wins Jamaican WiMAX Deployment Contract

­digicel Jamaica says that it has awarded a contract to China's ZTE for a full turn-key solution for phase one of its 2.5GHz Mobile WiMAX network. Under the agreement, ZTE will install a nationwide network across all 14 Parishes of Jamaica, covering 60% of the population at launch.  more

Digicel Plans Mobile WiMAX Network for Jamaica

­digicel Jamaica has detailed its plans to roll out a nationwide mobile WiMAX network, which it aims to launch in the second quarter of next year. At launch, the network will over 60% of the population with coverage in all 14 parishes -- with further roll out continuing across Jamaica driven by customer demand. Pacific Island of Nauru to Get First Ever Mobile Phones

digicel has been awarded a GSM license in the Republic of Nauru - marking the first time that the tiny Pacific nation will have mobile phones. Nauru is the sixth market for digicel in the Pacific, with existing operations in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, and the 32nd digicel market worldwide.  more

Digicel Interested in Costa Rican Mobile License

Caribbean mobile operator digicel is planning to bid for a mobile operator license in Costa Rica when the licenses are sold next year. Thee tender for the licenses will be launched in September, with the first mobile license to be awarded between March and April 2010.  more
