Aircom Wins Malaysian Network Planning Contract
Aircom has signed a deal with Malaysia's digi, to provide multiple network planning and optimisation tools from its Enterprise 6.0 tool suite. The deal comes as digi's subscriber base for prepaid voice and data services continues to grow across Malaysia and additional capacity is opened up in the network. more
Malaysia's Digi Hits Record Pre-Tax Profits
Malaysia's digi says that it kept up its growth momentum to record a profit after tax of RM496 (US$145.5) million for the first six months ended 30 June 2007, up 29% from the corresponding period last year. The Group's revenue jumped 17% to RM2.07 billion (US$607 million) on the back of increased usage and a larger customer base, which rose 11% to 6 million subscribers. more

MTC Consortium Conforms Saudi License Win
The MTC-led consortium has confirmed that it has been successful in making the highest bid for the third mobile telecommunications licence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia having bid SAR22.91 billion (US$6.109 billion). The award of the licence is subject to approval from the Saudi Arabia's Council of Ministers. more

Malaysia Sees Sharp Drop in Mobile Subscribers
Malaysia's prepaid registration programme came to an end in Q4 2006, during which time unregistered SIMs were disconnected from the networks of the country's three operators. In total there were almost 2.4m net disconnections between September and December, which implies that the total number of unregistered SIMs was nearer to 3m if normal organic growth in the quarter is assumed. more

Digi Prepares for PrePay Registration Deadline
In the run up to the deadline for PrePay users in Malaysia to register their handsets, the local operator, digi says that it is keeping its registration counters in 160 shopping complexes nationwide open until the last customer present is registered today and tomorrow. Under a government directive, all prepaid mobile lines must be registered by 15 December. Unregistered prepaid mobile lines will be suspended for two weeks and subsequently deactivated if they are still no registered by then. more

Malaysia Q3 2006 Market Update
Mobile customer growth in Malaysia slowed significantly in Q3 2006 to just 1.5% on a proportionate basis, as a deceleration in growth at number three operator digi was compounded by a complete reversal at second placed Celcom due to the disconnection of inactives. The national total moved from 20.22m to 20.53m in the three months to 30th September 2006, which is a 17% improvement on 17.54m customers at the end of Q3 2005. more

Malaysia's digi has reported an 80% jump in profit after tax to RM566 (US$154) million for the nine months ended 30 September 2006. The 80% increase in the profit after tax (PAT) from the corresponding period last year was on the back of RM2.7 billion (US$735 million) revenue which rose by 31%. more

No Delay to PrePay Registration Deadline
Later this year, Malaysia will start to block any PrePay mobile phone which has not had its ownership registered with the phone networks. Malaysia's telecoms regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has now reiterated its stand that there will be no extension deadline for the registration of all prepaid subscribers. All prepaid subscribers who have failed to meet the deadline of 15 December 2006 will have their lines suspended for a period of 14 days. more

Certified on the Sprint Power Vision Network, the ConnectPort WAN VPN S-EvDO provides wireless broadband-like communications at average download speeds of 400-700 Kbps and peak download speeds up to 2Mbps. more

Ericsson Wins Malaysian EDGE Contract
Malaysia's digi Telecommunications has awarded Ericsson a contract to expand its EDGE network and upgrade its core network nationwide covering all major cities and towns in the peninsula (except Klang Valley) as well as East Malaysia. Under the agreement, Ericsson will modernize digi's network by upgrading and optimizing some of the operator's GSM radio access equipment to EDGE, and replacing the remaining older equipment. more
