Grameenphone Confirms IPO Due in October

Grameenphone IPO Expected Shortly

Bangladeshi mobile network operator, Grameenphone expects to be able to proceed with its long planned stock market floatation in the very near future. The company has already raised US$60 million through the pre-IPO private placement offer. Telenor Moves Grameenphone CEO Over to Hungarian Subsidiary

Telenor has shuffled its management, and is moving Mr. Anders Jensen from running its part-owned Bangladeshi subsidiary, Grameenphone to take over at Hungary's Pannon from the beginning of April. He will succeed Mr. Ove Fredheim, who is leaving to take up another posting within the Telenor Group in Norway.  more

Nokia Siemens Wins Bangladeshi Network Contract

Teletalk Bangladesh, the state-owned mobile operator, is to double its subscriber capacity after agreeing a network expansion project with Nokia Siemens Networks. The company will build out capacity for Teletalk with the modernisation of its core network, including mobile softswitching, packet core, and Home Location Register (HLR). This marks the first supply deal in Bangladesh for the Nokia Siemens NetworksÃ' mobile softswitching.  more

Muhammad Yunus Threatens to Sue Telenor Over Grameenphone Stake

Ericsson Trials 3G Network in Bangladesh

According to reports in various local media, Ericsson has set up a demonstration 3G network in Bangladesh. Under the project styled 'Alokito Bangladesh', the company will demonstrate 3G services, including mobile health and mobile learning, in dhaka until October.  more

Second Bangladeshi Operator Plans Stock Market Listing

Bangladeshi mobile phone network operator, AKTEL has confirmed that it still intends to list its shares on the local stock market. The company is 70% owned by Telekom Malaysia International and the 30% remaining is currently in the process of being sold by A.K. Khan to Japan's DoCoMo for around US$350 million.  more

Bangladesh's TM International Bangladesh (TMIB), has selected Ericsson to expand its GSM/GPRS network. Ericsson will expand network coverage and capacity in the dhaka and Chittagong areas, which are home to more than half the population of Bangladesh. more
