Deutsche Telekom Posts Q1 Loss on T-Mobile Write Down
Germany's Deutsche Telekom has reported a net loss of EUR 1.1 billion (US$1.46 billion) for the first-quarter of this year, compared to a profit of EUR 900 million a year ago. The loss was largely blamed on an expected EUR 1.8 billion (US$2.4 billion) write-down on the valuation of T-Mobile UK. Adjusted profit was EUR 700 million (US$931 million), which is a 12.7% decline on the previous year, reflecting a slight downward trend in operational terms. more

Deutsche Telekom Outlines German Landline-Mobile Division Merger Details
Deutsche Telekom has confirmed the details of its plans to combine its German fixed and mobile communications business into just one business. Under the plans, T-Mobile International is to be merged into Deutsche Telekom. T-Mobile Deutschland will thus become a direct subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. Following this, the two units T-Home and T-Mobile Deutschland are to be combined into one company, which will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. more

Deutsche Telekom Issues Profits Warning - May Write Down T-Mobile Value
Deutsche Telekom has issued a profits warning, and now expects adjusted EBITDA in 2009 to be 2 to 4 percent below last year. The company is now expecting to post EBITDA in the range of EUR18.7 billion - EUR19.1 billionn (US$24.7 billionn) after an initial forecast of EUR19.5 billion. more

EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

Joint European 100G R&D field trial (100GET) on existing optical platform
Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom have successfully made a field trial of higher bandwidth optical transmission. Besides others, Ericsson and DT are engaged in the public funded R&D project 100GET, where this test took place. The new technology (delivered in this trial from the Marconi MHL 3000 WDM platform) will accommodate customer's steady growing broadband services in fixed and mobile broadband networks. more
