Majority of MENA Telcos Not Affected by Economic Downturn - So Far

While the financial crisis is darkening the mood of business forecasters around the world, the telecommunications industry in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) shows little inclination to be pessimistic, according to the results of a recent study from the consulting company Detecon International. Network Operators to be More Involved in the Mobile Advertising Market

While publishers, media agencies, and Internet companies are already working feverishly on advertising concepts for mobile end devices, most of the mobile network operators continue to hesitate. The management and technology consulting company Detecon recommends that telecommunications companies immediately exploit the advantages they enjoy as network holders to put their own advertising business strategies into place so that they do not miss out on the opportunities offered by the mobile advertising business.  more

Namibia to offer a second GSM license

The Namibian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a tender document for bidders for a second GSM license in the country. A preliminary meeting is to be held with interested bidders on July 23rd, according to a statement from the regulator. The tender will close on September 4th 2003, when the evaluation process will begin. No exact date for the award of the license was given though. more

Namibia prepares to award second GSM license

Detecon International is providing support to Namibia for the expansion of its mobile network. By adding another provider, the south African country wants to improve communications opportunities for its citizens and open up the mobile network market to more competition. The German consulting company is advising the national telecommunications regulation authorities during the awarding of a second mobile network license. The project has a volume of US$260,000 and will run for a period of ten months.  more
