Hitachi Opens USA Based LTE Research Facility

­Hitachi says that it has opened a LTE research facility in dallas, USA though a local subsidiary company, Hitachi Communication Technologies America. The facility is located in the "telecom corridor" area of Richardson, Texas. The dallas R&D Center will focus on the Mobility Management Entity (MME) and other components of the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) for LTE.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks Opens Nth American LTE Center

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced the setting up of an LTE research lab in the USA, which will be manned by approximately 500 people, consisting of both existing employees and new hires. In addition, the current head of NSN's North America division, Sue Spradley will join the company's executive board, effective immediately. Spradley will continue to report to Bosco Novak, chief of market operations.  more

El Paso, Salt Lake City, Dallas and Memphis are the Top SMS Markets in the USA

El Paso is the top American city for text messaging according to consumer and media research firm Scarborough Research. Fifty-seven percent of cell phone subscribers age 18+ in El Paso text message, versus 48 percent of adult cellular subscribers nationally. Other leading markets for text messaging include Salt Lake City, dallas and Memphis. Fifty-five percent of cell subscribers in these cities utilize the text messaging feature on their phone.  more

Linksys Launches UMA Capable Wi-Fi Router

Cisco subsidiary, Linksys has launched a new domestic router product which supports cellular UMA services. At its core, the WRTU54G is a standard Linksys Wireless-G broadband router, but it adds two phone jacks, two internal SIM card slots for multiple phone lines and UMA client software. T-Mobile USA is using the WRTU54G for its T-Mobile @Home service, currently being tested in the Seattle and dallas markets.  more

MetroPCS Extends Existing Arangements with Alcatel-Lucent

USA based MetroPCS Wireless has announced a three and one-half- year extension of an existing agreement with Alcatel-Lucent to include, among other things, Alcatel-Lucent's third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 mobile networking solutions to build out MetroPCS' AWS spectrum in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Detroit, dallas and Los Angeles.
