2Wire and Thomson Gain Wi-Fi Market Share

2Wire and Thomson were big winners in the 2008 Wi-Fi market, growing their shipments by nearly 60% annually. Each significantly outperformed the overall market, gaining market share, reports In-Stat. 2Wire achieved 11% share, while Thomson's share grew to almost 8%. Market share among the other leading competitors, Linksys, Netgear, and d-link was flat or down in 2008 compared to 2007.  more

WiMAX and RAN equipment sales up, wireless LAN down 7% in 2Q06"

The worldwide move toward greater mobility continues, says Infonetics Research in three recent reports tracking the wireless LAN, radio access network, and WiMAX/outdoor mesh network equipment markets. According to the reports, worldwide RAN equipment sales jumped 20% to US$8.9 billion between the first and second quarter of 2006; WiMAX equipment sales shot up 107% to US$141 million; and while wireless LAN equipment sales dropped 7% to US$654 million, growth is expected to be steady through 2009, fueled by strong WLAN switch and controller sales. more
