Sprint Nextel Reports Loss of 1.3 Million Customers in Q4 '08

Sprint Nextel has reported a fourth-quarter loss of US$1.62 billion, compared to the extraordinary loss of US$29.3 billion a year ago, caused by the US$29 billion write down of its Nextel purchase. Revenue in the quarter also fell 14.4 percent to $8.4 billion as 1.3 million subscribers decided to leave the company.  more

More Job Cuts at Sprint Nextel Expected Next Year

US operator, Sprint Nextel is expected to announce a large round of job cuts in the new year as the company tries to turn itself around. Pali Research analyst Walter Piecyk wrote on his blog that the company would post a charge to its finances in Q1 to cover the cost of the redundancies, but will boost the long term profitability of the firm.  more

Sprint Nextel Slips into 3rd Quarter Loss - Loses 1.3 Million Customers

US based Sprint Nextel has swung into a loss as it reported revenues of US$8.8 billion and a loss of US$326 million for the 3rd quarter of this year. This compared with a profit of US$64 million a year ago. If you exclude on-off items, the company says it would have broken even for the quarter.  more

Sprint Nextel Debt Ratings Downgraded to Junk Status

Debt ratings agency, Standard & Poor's  has lowered its corporate credit and senior unsecured ratings on Sprint Nextel to 'BB' from 'BBB-', or junk bond status. S&P also assigned a '3' recovery rating to Sprint Nextel's senior unsecured debt and US Unwired's second priority senior debt, which indicates expectations for meaningful (50% to 70%) recovery in the event of payment default. In addition, they withdrew Sprint Nextel's commercial paper rating.  more
