CKW Wireless outlines plans for its 3G spectrum
ArrayComm's Australian subsidiary and 3G license holder, CKW Wireless, has formed a US$14.3 million consortium to deploy the i-BURST mobile broadband wireless Internet access system in Australia. Members of the Consortium include carrier Vodafone Australia, the Australian ISP OzEmail, telecommunications project manager Total Communications Infrastructure (TCI), and base station site owner Crown Castle Australia. more

Metawave to supply smart antennas to Crown Castle
The embattled Metawave gave investors a piece of good news when it announced the signing of a supply agreement with the tower management company, Crown Castle International for it's SmartShare antenna sharing solution. This is a follow up to the agreement announced last October at which time Metawave was unable to name Crown Castle as the intended customer. more

AT&T Wireless considers leasing infrastructure
AT&T Wireless has confirmed that it is considering selling and leasing back its USA infrastructure. Joseph McCabe, chief financial officer of AT&T Wireless told analysts at J.P. Morgan's Global Telecommunications Conference in New York yesterday that the company is currently preparing the information necessary for them to be able to sell an then lease back its towers. The company has never leased its cellular infrastructure, or shared its towers with other networks. Sharing and leasing towers would not only save AT&T Wireless money, it will also help reduce planning problems caused by health scares if a single tower can be shared by several networks. No details of how much of the infrastructure would be sold, or if any approaches to tower management companies such as Crown Castle were forthcoming." more

KPN close to selling its cell sites
The Crown Castle Benelux consortium has been short listed by KPN to buy and manage KPN's 2,200 GSM cell sites in The Netherlands. The group making the bid comprises of the local, Landis Group, the American based Crown Castle and Lehman Brothers. If the bid is accepted, then Landis Group will operate and manage the cell sites, although no further capital investment is planed in the infrastructure, said Landis CEO Paul Kuiken" more

Hutchison 3G signs infrastructure contract
The UK 3G license holder, Hutchison 3G has signed a contract with Crown Castle to lease space on some 4,000 of Crown Castle's managed base stations in the UK. Hutchison 3G also has an option to rent space on a further 2,536 base stations in the future. As Hutchison 3G does not own an existing GSM network in the UK, an outsourcing agreement had been expected." more

BT leases its property to Crown Castle
The telecoms infrastructure outsourcing group, Crown Castle has signed a ten year contract with the UK's BT to use BT's property to provide cellular towers to the 3G license holders. All 3G licensees will be able to use the infrastructure, not just BT's wireless division. BT owns property throughout the UK for its local land-line switches and upto 4000 base stations will be to be plugged directly into the BT backbone, to minimise congestion in high speed data services. Crown Castle intends to invest about US$300 over the next three years in developing the BT site portfolio for 3G. In addition, Crown Castle is adding over 100 new employees with specialist skills in site acquisition, planning, and site development to cater for the substantial demand for 3G network facilities." more

UK Network Expansion In Northern Ireland
One2One, the UK based GSM1800 network, has signed an agreement with Crown Castle worth US$160 million to construct a turnkey network in Northern Ireland by the middle of next year. The contract to build and operate the infrastructure is for a period of 11 years." more
