Spanish Phone Users Willing to Pay for Content Back-Up Services
The majority of Spanish mobile phone users would be willing to pay for a service that backs-up their mobile phone content, reports Critical Path - who coincidentally sell back-up services. According to the survey, 98.5% of Spanish mobile users consider the address book saved on their mobiles as 'Important' or 'Very Important', but only 28.6% of consumers said they would be able to recover all this information if they lost it. more
Hutchison licenses file storage solution
Critical Path says that Hutchison 3G has selected its Internet File Server to provide online file storage and sharing services to customers. The Critical Path solution will be the foundation for Hutchison 3G's new storage service giving consumers the ability to manage, store and share a full range of multimedia content. Hutchison 3G will initially deploy the Critical Path solution in the UK, followed by the other markets where Hutchison Whampoa holds 3G licenses. more

GSM subscriber numbers close on 3/4 billion mark
The GSM Association has said that the number of global GSM wireless customers is fast approaching the three quarter billion mark. In parallel with the expansion of global customers - more than 167 million new customers have been added in the last twelve months - the staggering growth of SMS continues. A total of 75 billion text messages were sent globally in Q1 2002, representing an increase of more than 50% on the same period of 2001. The total forecast for 2002 is now put at 360 billion messages, up from 250 billion reached during 2002. more
