Huawei Wins 3G Contract in USA
Huawei says that it has signed a 3G agreement with the USA based CDMA operator, Leap Wireless. The agreement represents the first commercial contract between Leap and Huawei. The USA based operator, Leap Wireless and Alaska Native Broadband 1 License, a Leap joint venture, has signed three-year agreements with Lucent Technologies collectively valued at approximately US$125 million, providing Leap and ANB with 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO technology in new ANB markets and existing Leap markets across the United States. Under the terms of the agreements, Leap's operating subsidiary, cricket Communications has committed to purchase US$119 million of equipment, while ANB has committed to US$6 million. more

Leap secures 80% debt write-down

Leap gets permission to sell spectrum licenses
The bankrupt US CDMA carrier, Leap Wireless has announced that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego, California has approved a Bidding Procedures Motion to authorize the sale of 15 MHz of spectrum in each of the Idaho Falls and Twin Falls, Idaho markets. As part of its ongoing efforts to maximize value through the sale of excess spectrum, Leap's subsidiary which owns these licenses, cricket Licensee (Reauction), had previously entered into a license acquisition agreement with Edge Acquisitions. more

CDMA network files for bankruptcy protection
The US CDMA network operator, Leap Wireless has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection while it tries to restructure its debts. While the company is reorganizing, daily operations at the Company will continue; cricket stores will remain open; network service will not be interrupted; employees will be paid; and suppliers will be paid in the ordinary course of business for goods and services provided after the filing date. The Company does not expect any organizational changes or reduction in force as a result of this filing. more

Leap looks to restructure its finances
The USA's Leap Wireless, which operates a CDMA network under the cricket brand name, says that it has retained UBS Warburg to explore new sources of financing and restructuring for the outstanding indebtedness of Leap and its subsidiaries. UBS Warburg and the Company will begin discussions with major creditor groups in the near future to address the financial challenges facing the Company and its subsidiaries. more
