ZTE Wins German 3G MVNO Core Contract

ZTE has won a contract to build a 3G core network for German mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE), Vistream. ZTE says that it will provide a series of solutions to Vistream for a network capacity of 500,000 subscribers, including an all-IP platform, ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) hardware infrastructure and NGHLR (Next Generation Home Location Register) systems to construct a large a simplified GSM/UMTS core network.  more

ZTE Reportedly Picks up Half China Telecom CDMA Contract

China Telecommunications Corp., the parent company of Hong Kong listed fixed line operator China Telecom Corp. says that it has formally awarded a CDMA tender, estimated to be worth as much as US$1.5 billion. This initial contract is a prelude to a predicted much larger network infrastructure tender, thought to be worth upwards of US$10 billion.  more

Zimbabwean Operator Boosts Diesel Backups for Base Stations

Econet Zimbabwe has ordered 98 diesel electricity generators from Chinese suppliers to help boost the reliability of its mobile network in the face of continuing electricity shortages in the country. The company will have over 200 of its 320 base stations supplied by diesel backups when the order is delivered.  more

ZTE Wins Pakistan Network Contract

ZTE says that it has signed a contract with Pakistan's CMPak for GSM network expansion in the country. Under the contract, the expansion includes the construction of 14,000 carriers for radio network and 10 million lines for core network. more

Zimbabwe Network Expansion Continues Despite Economic Woes

Zimbabwe's Econet says it is taking a long-term view of the future of the country and is therefore continuing with its expansion project despite congestion problems being caused by low tariffs and ongoing power cuts. In a statement, Econet Chief Executive Officer Douglas Mboweni said the company is going ahead with work started a few months ago to add capacity to the network and increase its subscriber carrying capacity from the current 800,000 to 1.2 million by February 2008. more

ZTE Wins Jamaican CDMA Upgrade Contract

China's ZTE has won a CDMA upgrade contract from Oceanic Digital Jamaica (ODJ), a New York-based telecommunications company, operating locally in Jamaica under the "MiPhone" brand name. As part of the upgrade, ZTE will supply CDMA2000 EV-DO and CDMA2000 1x voice and data network equipment, base station subsystems (BSS), and core network equipment, along with ZTE's CDMA2000-based GoTa (Global Open Trunking Architecture) push-to-talk network, and its CDMA2000 1X voice and data handsets, GoTa handsets, and EV-DO data cards. more
