Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract

Motorola says that it has won a W-CDMA contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-CDMA radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-CDMA networks.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Taiwanese Femtocell Contract

WCDMA equipment up 12% in 3Q; Nokia Siemens leads in mobile switch subsystems

After ramping up in 2Q08 in large part due to Beijing Olympics preparations, the worldwide radio access network (RAN) equipment market slid 6% to $9.6 billion in 3Q08 on sharp declines in the CDMA segment, reports market research firm Infonetics Research.  more

NEC Wins "Super 3G" Contract in Japan

Japan's NTT DoCoMo has contracted with NEC to provide core network EPC (Evolved Packet Core) systems that support NTT DoCoMo's "Super 3G" next generation mobile phone networks. Super3G is a standard system and an advanced version of the W-CDMA-extended technologies HSDPA and HSUPA, which achieves data transmission speeds of 100Mbps or more in downlink and 50Mbps or more in uplink access.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Nigerian Network Expansion Contract

Alcatel-Lucent has signed a contract with Globacom (Glo), Nigeria's second largest national operator to extend the network capacity and performance of Globacom's mobile and fixed networks. The project will enable Globacom to increase its mobile network capacity (including GSM/EDGE and W-CDMA/HSPA technologies) to support up to 35 million subscribers, and to raise its fixed network capacity.  more

RAN equipment market down 2% due to slowdowns in N. America and Europe

Worldwide sales of radio access network (RAN) equipment are down 2% to $10 billion in 3Q07, following a 4% increase in 2Q07, according to Infonetics Research's quarterly report. Meanwhile, the number of mobile subscribers continues to climb, expected to be up 20% year-over-year by the end of 2007, and forecast to reach 4.2 billion worldwide by 2010, the report shows.  more

MTNL Orders GSM Kit to Expand Capacity in Mumbai
