Cook Islands Operator Completes GSM Softswitch Migration
Telecom Cook Islands has completed the commercial deployment of a GSM softswitch from ADC. The new softswitch -- which upgrades the carrier's core wireless network to more efficient, IP-based technology -- has been in deployment since September of 2007, and the final network cutover was accomplished last week. The network upgrade enabled by the UltraWave GSM softswitch includes an overall expansion of the network's capacity from 8,000 to 15,000 subscribers along with new services such as prepaid calling, SMS, voicemail, and GPRS data. more
