Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract

Motorola says that it has won a W-CDMA contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-CDMA radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-CDMA networks.  more

Ericsson to Expand Zain Madagascar network

Ericsson has signed a contract with the Zain Group to expand the core network and the GSM radio access network for Zain Madagascar. The expansion of Zain Madagascar's network, which has been operational since 2005, is centered upon deploying Ericsson's Packet Core Network, including both SGSN and GGSN nodes, and Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch Solution.  more

Nokia Siemens Wins Qatar Network Upgrade Contract

Nokia Siemens Networks says that it has won a US$61 million contract from Qatar Telecom (Qtel) to modernise its 2G and 3G networks. The upgrade will involve new radio access network (RAN) and consultancy work, along with some improvements to the core network.  more

Ericsson Supplying Vietnamese CDMA to GSM Migration Kit

Ericsson has signed its largest single contract in Vietnam, amounting to US$450 million, to develop and modernize Hanoi Telecom's nationwide mobile network. Alcatel-Lucent Wins Taiwanese WiMAX Contract

Taiwan's Tatung InfoComm, a wholly owned subsidiary of a Taiwanese conglomerate, Tatung Co., has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a commercial WiMAX 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) network in Penghu County, Taiwan. Tatung holds one of the commercial WiMAX licenses for TaiwanÃ's southern regions.  more

Alaska Wireless Orders Rural Coverage Platform

USA based Alaska Wireless has selected Tecore NetworksÃ's Rural Village System (RVS) as the exclusive infrastructure solution for the build-out of the remote regions of Alaska. Tecore says that the operator found that most vendors of rural cellular infrastructure could only provide parts of the network, whereas Tecore has been delivering turnkey mobile networks including core platform and radio access network for over a decade.  more

RAN equipment market down 2% due to slowdowns in N. America and Europe

Worldwide sales of radio access network (RAN) equipment are down 2% to $10 billion in 3Q07, following a 4% increase in 2Q07, according to Infonetics Research's quarterly report. Meanwhile, the number of mobile subscribers continues to climb, expected to be up 20% year-over-year by the end of 2007, and forecast to reach 4.2 billion worldwide by 2010, the report shows.  more
