Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract

Motorola says that it has won a W-CDMA contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-CDMA radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-CDMA networks.  more

Tekelec Wins Additional Signaling Business With Wataniya Telecom

Tekelec says that it has won a follow-on order to provide its EAGLE 5 platform to Wataniya Telecom in Kuwait, giving the operator a central signaling solution to handle core network functions. World's First Femtocell Standard Published by 3GPP

Three trade bodies, The Femto Forum, 3GPP and the Broadband Forum have jointly announced that the world's first femtocell standard has been officially published by 3GPP, paving the way for interoperability between different vendors' access points and femto gateways. The new standard, which forms part of 3GPP's Release 8, and interdependent with Broadband Forum extensions to its Technical Report-069 (TR-069), has been completed in just 12 months following cooperation between the three groups.  more

Algerian Railways Selects Nortel for GSM-R Expansion

Aeroflex TM500 Test Mobile Adds UE CAT4 LTE Support

Aeroflex says that it has achieved a world first with the addition of UE CAT3 and UE CAT4 support to its TM500 LTE Test Mobile. As implementation of the LTE specification progressively moves towards the delivery of bandwidth-hungry applications users demand, LTE CAT 3 and CAT 4 data channels support data rates of up to 150Mbps on the downlink and 50Mbps on the uplink.
