World's First Femtocell Standard Published by 3GPP
Three trade bodies, The Femto Forum, 3GPP and the Broadband Forum have jointly announced that the world's first femtocell standard has been officially published by 3GPP, paving the way for interoperability between different vendors' access points and femto gateways. The new standard, which forms part of 3GPP's Release 8, and interdependent with Broadband Forum extensions to its Technical Report-069 (TR-069), has been completed in just 12 months following cooperation between the three groups. more

Nokia Siemens Wins Contracts in Czech Republic and Slovakia
Telefónica O2 has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to extend its mobile networks in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Under a three-year contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will be the sole supplier of the 2G and optionally 3G networks covering Slovakia and 2G and 3G in the Czech Republic's two major cities, Prague and Brno. more

Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Azerbaijani EDGE Upgrade Contract
Azerbaijan mobile operator, Bakcell is expanding its 2G network and adding a network upgrade to EDGE provided by Nokia Siemens Networks. Cisco to Deploy WiMAX Network in Malaysia
YTL e-Solutions Berhad (YTLE) says that it has entered into a collaboration with Cisco to establish its WiMAX core network in Peninsular Malaysia. Under the agreement, Cisco will build and integrate YTLE's WiMAX core network -- which includes IP CORE, Operating Support Systems, Billing Systems, Proactive Network Operating Center (PNOC), and Interoperability Testing labs. The business relationship is in line with YTLE's goal to provide mobile internet services nationwide. more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Turkish IP/MPLS Upgrade
Alcatel-Lucent says that it has been selected by Turkey's Avea to start migrating voice, signaling and networking services onto an IP/MPLS-based network. The converged network will be able to support voice, broadband data services (GPRS, Edge and 3G), signaling and billing traffic, 2G/3G voice traffic as well as future multimedia services. Alcatel-Lucent's solution is part of its Mobile Evolution Transport Architecture (META), a comprehensive vision for the evolution of mobile networks from TDM to all-IP. more
