Kenya's Safaricom Buys WiMAX Network Operator

Kenya's Safaricom says that it has signed an agreement to buy local WiMAX operator, Packet Stream Data Networks for an undisclosed amount. Kenya Wants PrePay Subscribers Registered by Jan 2010

Telkom Kenya Awarded a Mobile Operator License

Kenya's telecoms regulator, the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) has awarded a mobile operator license to Telkom Kenya, which has legalised its existing CDMA based fixed wireless network. The incumbent GSM operators had complained that Telkom Kenya's CDMA network was illegal as the company hadn't paid for an operating license that the regulator had considered to be a fixed wireless service. Since the launch though, Telkom Kenya has marketed the service as a mobile phone network in some areas.  more

Kenyan GSM Operator Gets International License

Kenya to offer 3rd GSM license

Kenya is to offer a third GSM license, to compete with the incumbents Safaricom Kenya and KenCell Communications. The Communications Commission of Kenya has invited experienced operators of mobile telecommunications systems to participate in a prequalification process, which will result in the award of a nation-wide GSM900/1800 licence. more

Lots of dialing code updates

The mobile phone element of the implementation of Lithuania's National Telephone Numbering Plan has started. Number dialing procedure has resulting changes to cellphone dialing codes, and the code series 281, 285, 289, 299 have now changed to 681, 685, 689, 699. The old codes will still work until September 1st 2002. more
