Switzerland to Permit 3G at 900Mhz - Extends Licenses
Switzerland's telecoms regulator, comcom has renewed the GSM mobile telephony licences of Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom until the end of 2013. All the countries GSM licences, which were provisionally extended in April 2008, will now all expire at the same time (Swisscom, Sunrise, Orange and In&Phone). This gives comcom an opportunity to implement a comprehensive reallocation of all the mobile telephony frequencies which are free today or which will become free in 2013 or 2016. more

Swiss Regulator Provisionally Extends GSM Licenses
Switzerland's Federal Communications Commission (comcom) has provisionally extended the GSM mobile telephony licences of Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom, which expire at the end of May 2008, until 31 December 2013 at the latest. This is intended to bridge the delays in the renewal of the three expiring GSM licences which have arisen as a result of appeals procedures. more

Switzerland's Federal Communications Commission (comcom) has decided in principle to award one GSM licence respectively in the 1800MHz frequency band to the companies In&Phone and Tele2. The licences will now be elaborated and granted at the beginning of 2004. To give smaller companies an opportunity, the frequencies were awarded within the framework of a competition based on criteria, excluding the three existing GSM operators. more

Switzerland to create several new GSM licenses
Switzerland's telecoms regulator, comcom has opened a tender for additional GSM frequencies. The aim of the award is the stimulation of the Swiss mobile radio market by means of innovative projects. In order to achieve this aim, the frequencies will be awarded using a criteria-based competition which excludes the three existing GSM operators. Though it would be theoretically possible to set up a fourth national mobile radio network, the results of a consultation carried out in 2002 indicated that this is unrealistic. more
