Motorola wins Chinese CDMA contract

Motorola says that it is the first supplier to sign a contract with China Unicom for the Phase III expansion of the operator's CDMA2000 1X network. The expansion contract, worth more than US$80 million, will bring advanced mobile communications services to customers in the cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, WuXi, Changzhou, Nantong and Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province, one of the most developed districts of China. more

Motorola wins Indonesian CDMA contract

Indonesia's PT. Telkom has selected a Motorola CDMA2000 1X system for deployment in the ten provinces of Sumatra. Sumatra is one of the largest islands and one of the fastest growing areas in Indonesia. The estimated contract value for the initial phase of the CDMA2000 1X network rollout is nearly US$30 million, with allowances for additional capacity should PT. Telkom decide to expand the network. The network is set for commercial deployment in April 2003, and will run on the 800 MHz band. more

Sucessful test of VoIP over a CDMA network

Envoy Networks says that it has successfully completed testing on its cellular network architecture by linking an IS-95 air interface with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). The immediate benefit of employing this technology is that wireless carriers will be able to reduce capital expenditures by enabling the use of standard IP-based, wireline network equipment in the wireless network. more

Nortel partners with Airvana to jump onto the 1xEV-DO bandwagon

Nortel Networks has said that it has plans to offer CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (evolution-data only) infrastructure products. Building on CDMA2000 1X capability, Nortel Networks CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solution will be enabled through an upgrade to Nortel Networks CDMA MetroCell base station, and will help pave the way to all-IP (Internet Protocol) networks and reduced network operating expenses. The CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solution is expected to be available in the second half of 2002. more
