Cisco Joins WiMAX Forum Board of Directors
The WiMAX Forum has announced the addition of cisco as a new member of its board of directors. Sai Subramanian, director of marketing for the broadband wireless business unit of cisco, will serve as cisco’s representative on the WiMAX Forum board. Last week, the WiMAX Forum also announced that it had added Tata Communications’ COO Prateek Pashine to its board. more

On 14 January 2009, Nortel Networks moved beyond talk of divestiture and
speculation of bankruptcy, and filed for creditor protection in Canada and the
US, with Nortel UK entering administration separately under a filing managed by
Ernst & Young. The company reached this point after multiple management
regimes failed in their attempts to remake the company after the bursting of the
telecoms bubble. Nortel's move may result in a more balanced industry
structure for communications equipment.

Nextel to trial high speed data service
The US based, Nextel says that it will trial a wireless broadband service in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C. market using Flarion Technologies' FLASH-OFDM technology. The trial will begin later this month and will offer participants highly secure, high-speed, IP-based broadband access with the full mobility of wireless service. more
Nortel partners with Airvana to jump onto the 1xEV-DO bandwagon
Nortel Networks has said that it has plans to offer CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (evolution-data only) infrastructure products. Building on CDMA2000 1X capability, Nortel Networks CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solution will be enabled through an upgrade to Nortel Networks CDMA MetroCell base station, and will help pave the way to all-IP (Internet Protocol) networks and reduced network operating expenses. The CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solution is expected to be available in the second half of 2002. more
