China Unicom Aims to Offer 3G Services in 55 Cities By July
China Unicom says that it aniticpates launching its WCDMA network in 55 Chinese cities by the middle of this year - and expand coverage to 280 cities by the end of the year. This compares with China Telecom's plans to cover 100 cities with its CDMA 3G network within three months, and China Mobile's plans to cover 238 cities by the end of this year. more

China Telecom Aims for 3G Launch Within Three Months
China Telecom, which recently acquired the CDMA network from China Unicom plans to launch its own 3G upgraded service in 100 cities within the next three months, as it tries to catch up with China Mobile's already operational 3G network. more

China Mobile Plans $8.6 Billion 3G CAPEX in 2009
China Mobile says that it plans to spend around US$8.6 billion during 2009 alone on rolling out its 3G network - based on the home-grown TD-SCDMA technology. The company aims to deploy some 60,000 base stations in 238 cities this year. more

Nokia Expects to Support China's TD-SCDMA Standard
Nokia is planning to support all three of the proposed 3G standards in China by releasing handsets for each of the networks. It is anticipated that China Mobile will use the Chinese developed 3G standard, TD-SCDMA, while China Telecom will use CDMA2000 and China Unicom will use WCDMA. more
