Chinese Believe WCDMA Phones Superior to CDMA and TD-SCDMA Models

­Over half (58%) of Chinese customers believe that WCDMA phones are the best 3G network in the country, followed by CDMA2000 (14.1%) and just 4.3% saying that TD-SCDMA handsets are the best.  more

ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China

CCID, a research firm in China disclosed recently in an industry report which predicted that the rapid deployment of 3G networks in China will eventually result in the creation of about 660,000 3G subscriber lines by Q3 this year. iPhone in China: China Mobile or China Unicom?

China Unicom Aims to Offer 3G Services in 55 Cities By July

China Unicom says that it aniticpates launching its WCDMA network in 55 Chinese cities by the middle of this year - and expand coverage to 280 cities by the end of the year. This compares with China Telecom's plans to cover 100 cities with its CDMA 3G network within three months, and China Mobile's plans to cover 238 cities by the end of this year.  more

China Telecom Aims for 3G Launch Within Three Months

China Telecom, which recently acquired the CDMA network from China Unicom plans to launch its own 3G upgraded service in 100 cities within the next three months, as it tries to catch up with China Mobile's already operational 3G network.  more

China Mobile Plans $8.6 Billion 3G CAPEX in 2009

China Mobile says that it plans to spend around US$8.6 billion during 2009 alone on rolling out its 3G network - based on the home-grown TD-SCDMA technology. The company aims to deploy some 60,000 base stations in 238 cities this year.  more

China Confirms 3G License Awards

China has finally awarded its long awaited 3G licenses and formally outlined who got what. The government confirmed that the Cabinet has approved the licenses last Wednesday, but only published the formal details this morning.  more

China Should Adopt Technology Neutrality for 3G Services

China Unicom Starts 3G Trial

China Unicom is reported to have started a trial WCDMA based network in Baoding City in northern China's Hebei Province. Industry sources told the Interfax news agency that the trials have already commenced.  more

Nokia Expects to Support China's TD-SCDMA Standard

Nokia is planning to support all three of the proposed 3G standards in China by releasing handsets for each of the networks. It is anticipated that China Mobile will use the Chinese developed 3G standard, TD-SCDMA, while China Telecom will use CDMA2000 and China Unicom will use WCDMA.  more
