Alcatel-Lucent Deploys CDMA EV-DO Upgrade in Shanghai

­Alcatel-Lucent says that China Telecom, through its subsidiary Shanghai Telecom, successfully tested and validated Alcatel-Lucent's multicarrier EV-DO solution, based on the Rev. B standard. The contract was signed through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's Chinese subsidiary.  more

China Telecom Offers Video News to 3G Subscribers in Shanghai

China's official Xinhua News Agency says that it has launched a mobile TV service broadcasting news reports to China Telecom's 3G subscribers in Shanghai. Xinhua will provide China Telecom Shanghai Branch with exclusive news about the Shanghai Expo, analysis reports and various news items, while the latter will offer telecommunications services, according to the deal.  more

China Telecom Orders CDMA Handset Testing Platform

China Telecom has selected Spirent Communications' C2K-ATS system to test mobile phones before they are offered to its subscribers. China Telecom will use the Spirent test system for parametric radio testing, signaling conformance testing, data performance testing and location-based services (LBS) testing.  more

Gemalto Supplying to All Three Mobile Operators in China

Smartcard vendor, Gemalto says that it has started supplying its UICC (Universal Identity Cryptographic Computer) and R-UIM (Removable User Identity Module) cards to all three mobile operators in China for their 3G networks. With deliveries made through its joint ventures in China, Gemalto says that it is the first provider to be fully qualified to support the different 3G wireless standards; CDMA EVDO, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA.  more

Survey finds price and network performance key to 3G takeoff in China

With the high profile release of China Unicom's 3G brand "WO", mobile operators in China have officially declared 3G war. This heralds the beginning of a much awaited campaign among the "Big Three" operators, who are all trying to make their presence felt through the intensive use of print, TV, outdoor and other media. China Telecom and mInfo partner on Mobile Search for China

China Telecom has selected local mobile search engine, mInfo as a partner to deliver its "QuanNengSou" (Complete Search) services for its mobile subscribers nationwide. The search service will be available in key markets in Q2 2009 and launch nationwide in the second half of 2009.  more

Chinese Operators to Spend Nearly $3 Billion on Earthquake Repairs

China's three telecoms operators are reported to be planning to spend over RMB 20 billion (US$2.93 billion) during 2009 to repair and upgrades networks affected by the Sichuan Province earthquake. According to the announcement, China Telecom will invest US$1.47 billion), China Telecom US$1.26 billion, and China Unicom US$483.74 million.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.7 Billion

Alcatel-Lucent has inked two framework agreements valued US$1.7 billion in total with China Mobile and China Telecom, to provide network upgrades, integration and maintenance services in 2009. The agreements were secured through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's Chinese company.  more
