Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.1 Billion
China Mobile and China Unicom have separately signed agreements to purchase 2G and 3G mobile equipments and services from Nokia Siemens Networks during 2009. Under the framework agreements Nokia Siemens Networks will roll out WCDMA networks for China Unicom in 11 provinces across China. In addition, it will provide China Mobile with TD-SCDMA and GSM networks. more

Nortel Completes LTE-TDD Wireless Demo in China

Vodafone Seeking Closer ties with China Mobile and Verizon Wireless

Clearwire Aims for 31 Million WiMAX Subscribers by 2017
US WiMAX operator, Clearwire - which has been formed from the merger of the Clearwire and Sprint Nextel divisions expects to have some 1.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009 and 4.6 million by the end of 2010. The company is forecasting revenues of over $17.5bn by 2017, by which time the company expects to have around 31 million subscribers. more

LTE Subscribers: From Zero to 32 Million in Three Years
Despite the fact that no LTE (Long Term Evolution) network is expected to be commercial before 2010, a new study from ABI Research forecasts that by 2013, there will be more than 32 million subscribers using LTE networks. China Mobile to Join in LTE FDD/TDD Trials
As has been expected, China Mobile has confirmed that it is set to join LTE (Long Term Evolution) trials already being carried out by Vodafone and Verizon Wireless. The resultant three-way operator trials will focus on LTE FDD (the Frequency Division Duplex version of LTE) for use with paired spectrum allocations and TD-LTE (the Time Division Duplex version of LTE) as an evolution of current TD-SCDMA technology to enable the exploitation of unpaired spectrum globally. more

LTE/SAE trial initiative (LSTI) delivers initial results
The first phase in a trial of an evolved version of today's mobile phone radio access technology designed to deliver much higher wireless data rates has proven a success. The LTE/SAE (Long Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution) Trial Initiative (LSTI) launched in May this year has reported the successful delivery of the first in a series of test results aimed at proving the potential and benefits of LTE. LTE is being standardized by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as a next generation mobile broadband technology. more
