Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.1 Billion
China Mobile and China Unicom have separately signed agreements to purchase 2G and 3G mobile equipments and services from Nokia Siemens Networks during 2009. Under the framework agreements Nokia Siemens Networks will roll out WCDMA networks for China Unicom in 11 provinces across China. In addition, it will provide China Mobile with TD-SCDMA and GSM networks. more

Nortel Completes LTE-TDD Wireless Demo in China
Nortel says that it has successfully completed the first end-to-end video streaming session using a Time Division Duplex (TDD)-based LTE network, working with commercial grade LTE Base Station and device prototypes in China. China Mobile Planning 3,000 3G Base Station for Shanghai
China Mobile's Shanghai branch has said it will install over 3,000 TD-SCDMA base stations in Shanghai this year as it prepares to launch 3G services commercially. The company is already running trials of the network and handsets, although there have been complaints about coverage from the network and battery life in the handsets. more

Ericsson Profits Rise - Misses Sales Forecast
Ericsson has reported that its Q2 pre-tax profits rose to SEK9.3 (US$1.4) billion from SEK8.3 billion in the same period a year ago. Sales totaled SEK47.6 billion in the second quarter, just missing a SEK47.8 billion forecast. Gross margin was stable sequentially and up 0.4%-points year-over-year. The operating margin increased sequentially, excluding Sony Ericsson, as a result of increased sales and a completed streamlining of the former Marconi operations. more
