Nokia and Motorola Dominate Chinese Smartphone Market

A report from China's CCID Consulting has found that the sales volume of China's smart phone market in 2008Q3 reached 7.474 million units, up 0.6% over Q2 '08; the sales revenue in Q3 reached 18.17 billion Yuan, up 4.5% over 2008Q2. Smart phones' sales volume in 2008Q3 accounted for 19.3% of the total mobile phone sales volume, up 0.7% over 2008Q2.  more

Nokia Siemens and Ericsson May Win 20% of Chinese 3G Tender

China Mobile is expected to announce the winners of its US$4.4 billion 3G network tender, with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Ericsson both expected to receive around 10% of the contract each. The contract is for the second phase of China Mobile's trial TD-SCDMA based service which aims to expand the network to a further 28 cities.  more

China Mobile Planning to Open Silicon Valley R&D Office

T-Mobile Expected to Sell Google Phone for Under $200

As T-Mobile USA prepares to show off the first version of the so-called, Google Phone next week, it has been reported that the company is aiming to sell the smartphone for US$199 with a contract. Open Source OS Assists Chinese Development of the Smart Phone Market

Google Phone faces Launch Delays

It has been reported that the Android operating system for mobile phones - being heavily promoted by Google - will not be available until the fourth quarter of this year, at the earliest. Clearwire Aims for 31 Million WiMAX Subscribers by 2017

US WiMAX operator, Clearwire - which has been formed from the merger of the Clearwire and Sprint Nextel divisions expects to have some 1.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009 and 4.6 million by the end of 2010. The company is forecasting revenues of over $17.5bn by 2017, by which time the company expects to have around 31 million subscribers.  more
