Dell Reported to be in Talks for Chinese Smartphones

Dell Computers, which has been rumoured to be entering the smartphone market for several years, is now hotly rumoured to be in talks with China Mobile to launch its first range of handsets in the country. The company has been apparently rebuffed by several operators who considered prototype handsets as bland an uninspiring. ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China

China Mobile to Have 100 Million 3G Subscribers in 2011

China Mobile aims to have 100 million TD-SCDMA users in the next three years, with the figure reaching 10 million this year, according to company executives and government officials. Lu Dongfeng, vice-president of Datang Telecom Technology, a provider of TD-SCDMA products, said at an industry forum in Chongqing that China plans to have 100 million TD-SCDMA users by the end of 2011.  more

Nokia Siemens and Ericsson May Win 20% of Chinese 3G Tender

China Mobile is expected to announce the winners of its US$4.4 billion 3G network tender, with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Ericsson both expected to receive around 10% of the contract each. The contract is for the second phase of China Mobile's trial TD-SCDMA based service which aims to expand the network to a further 28 cities.  more

China Mobile Planning to buy 2 Million 3G Handsets

China Mobile is reported to be planning a TD-SCDMA handset tender later this year which could be worth between US$500 and US$780 million. China Mobile, which has already spent a similar sum to purchase 3G network equipment for 10 cities, will buy two million TD-SCDMA phones in October, according to Chen Haofei, the secretary general of TD-SCDMA Forum. The handsets are expected to retail for between US$260 and US$390 per unit. more
