China Mobile Reports First Half Profits Up Slightly
China Mobile Ltd., the Hong Kong listed subsidiary of state-owned China Mobile Corp has reported an 8.9% rise in its first half revenues to RMB212.9 billion (US$31.2 billion). Net profit rose by 1.4% to RMB55.3 billion (US$8.1 billion), while the company added 35.9 million net new subscribers over the six months. more

China Mobile Expecting 80 Million 3G Subscribers by 2011
China Mobile is expected to have up to 80 million subscribers to its 3G network within the next two years, said China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Yizhong. The company is rolling out a network based on the home-grown TD-SCDMA standard, while its rival networks are allowed to use the international WCDMA and CDMA formats. more

China Mobile Reported to be in Talks to Buy Telenor Pakistan
China Mobile is reported to be in talks with Norway's Telenor concerning a merger of their respective Pakistani mobile networks. Although both the operators have denied any such development, sources told the local Dawn newspaper that negotiations were being held secretly at the group level. The deal is thought to involve China Mobile buying Telenor Pakistan and then merging the two networks. more
