China Mobile Pakistan to Double Number of Base Station by Year-End

China Mobile's ­Pakistani subsidiary, Zong is planning to spend up to US$500 million by the end of this year on a substantial expansion of its mobile network, reports the local Daily Times newspaper. The network is expected to double the number of base stations it operates from 4,5000 to around 9,000 by the year-end.  more

ROK Signs Second Pakistani Mobile TV Contract

ROK Entertainment says that through it's partners BPS, it has signed a contract with China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), to supply a portfolio of Pakistani and international content. Under the terms of the agreement, subscribers will be able to watch the content over ROK's Live TV product - a mobile streaming service where the consumer can watch a range of live content streamed to their mobile handset - due to be launched in the first quarter of 2008, as well as ROK Talk, which enables users to make multi-person calls from their mobile.  more

Ericsson Wins Pakistani GSM Expansion Contract

Ericsson has been selected by China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak) for the rapid expansion of its GSM network throughout the south of the country.

Under the contract Ericsson will provide a complete GSM radio network including MINI-LINK to extend coverage to 312 cities in the densely-populated Sindh and Balochistan regions.

The project, to start this year, will increase network capacity and provide coverage in difficult terrain, as well as enhance operational efficiency and prepare CMPak for evolution to 3G and other advanced technologies.

Guo Yonghong, CEO CMPak, says: "Ericsson's solutions and experience will ensure that system design and construction will meet both our technical and business requirements. Being able to understand our unique needs was the key factor in Ericsson winning this contract."

Zibber Mohiuddin, President of Ericsson Pakistan, says: "We are pleased to be a partner to CMPak's success in one of the fastest-growing GSM markets in the world. This contract is a further demonstration of our commitment and capability to support our customers to achieve sustained business growth in high-growth markets."
