Verizon Announces LTE Deployment Plans - Going Live in 2010
Verizon's CTO, Dick Lynch has outlined the company's plans to roll out an LTE upgrade for its wireless network. Lynch announced that Verizon Wireless has selected Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as primary network vendors for its initial LTE network deployments. These two vendors are expected to build the underlying infrastructure that will enable Verizon Wireless to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE-based service in the United States, starting in 2010. more

Canadian Operators Switch to WCDMA - Plan LTE Rollout
Canada's two CDMA operators, Telus and Bell have confirmed recent rumours and jointly announced plans to build a WCDMA based overlay on their existing networks. The companies also confirmed a long-term migration path to LTE based services. more

T-Mobile Runs Live Tests of Mobile LTE Network in Germany
T-Mobile has successfully trialed a LTE based network in Germany in a live environment. In the trial, data was transmitted to and from a vehicle driving in Bonn between Deutsche Telekom's headquarters on the left side of the river Rhine and the T-Mobile headquarters on the river's right bank. On the four-kilometer test track data transmission went smoothly without interruptions and without loss of quality even across different cells - one of the most important prerequisites for qualification as a mobile communications network of the future. more

Verizon Wireless Confirms LTE for its Network Evolution
A few months after Vodafone's Arun Sarin said that he expects the US Verizon Wireless to adopt 3GPP LTE for its network evolution, the company has now outlined its plans to develop and deploy its fourth generation mobile broadband network using LTE. The selection of LTE provides Verizon and Vodafone - joint owners of USA-based Verizon Wireless - with an opportunity to adopt a common access platform that offers compatibility with the existing technologies of both companies. more

Sprint Testing 3G Evolution Platform
IPWireless has announced that the USA based CDMA operator, Sprint will be the first operator globally to test the next generation of IPWireless' mobile broadband technology. Starting in March, Sprint will test IPWireless' new platform that is progressive to Long Term Evolution (LTE). The platform delivers peak speeds up to 29Mbps per sector in a pair of 5MHz channels and seamless interoperability from paired and unpaired spectrum. more
