UPDATED: Motorola Sacked Financial Officer "for Cause"

When Motorola announced its financial results last month, they also announced without elaborating that the Chief Financial Officer, Paul Liska was leaving the firm with immediate effect. It has now been confirmed via a regulatory filing that he was effectively sacked - or "involuntarily terminated for cause" as the filing puts it.  more

Hutchison Telecom Confirms Spin-Off Plans for Hong Kong Holdings

Hong Kong based Hutchison Telecom has reported a 16% rise in full-year revenues to HK$24 billion (US$3.1 billion) and an increase of 16.8% in EBITDA to HK$6.14 billion (US$791 million). Net income dropped precipitously to HK$1.88 billion (US$242 million) from the extraordinary HK66.8 billion a year ago - which was largely due to the one-off gain from the sale of its Indian interests to Vodafone.  more

Verizon CFO to Retire in Mid-2009

Verizon's Chief Financial Officer, Doreen A. Toben has announced her intention to retire around the middle of this year. As CFO since 2002, Toben has been involved in virtually all of Verizon's strategic initiatives and significant decisions. The company said that a successor to Toben will be named shortly.  more

Pakistani Operator Gets Funding for Network Expansion

MobileOne Sales Up - But Profits Dip Slightly

Singapore based mobile operator, MobileOne (M1) has reported that service revenue grew by 1.6% year on year to S$738.5 million (US$494 million). EBITDA margin for the fourth quarter increased 2.4 percentage points quarter-on-quarter to 44%, bringing the full year's margin to 42.9%. Normalised net profit for the year (excluding prior year's tax adjustments) declined 4.5% to S$150.1 million (US$100 million).  more

Telefonica Wins $470 Million Contract With Deutsche Post / DHL

Deutsche Post World Net - the German based postal operator and owner of parcels firm, DHL - has selected Telefónica to manage its communications services across 28 European countries over the next five years. Telefónica will become Deutsche Post World Net's primary fixed and mobile telecommunications provider in Europe and is expected to help the logistics group save over €150 million in costs over the period.  more
